Johnny Depp Adopted Into Comanche Nation

Johnny Depp's next role will be Tonto. could'nt they get a Native American to play that role?
..oh that's right ,we killed them all.  - Howard Stern

The Film industry Hollywood, is criticized for using non Indians to play Indians
Hollywood answers with, " Well, Indians Can't act. "
Then along came Jay Silverheels who played the original Tonto. He showed Hollywood that an Indian could act. Many Natives from the Urban and rural reservations began to audition and take acting serious.
Hollywood has always believed Indians can't act except as background extras, so to circumvent criticism
many non-Indian actors who land lead roles as iconic Indian characters become adopted into tribes as members, and who could really argue with a great tradition, I wonder if Johnny will get a Casino share check.

Caucasian PAINTED in full black face makeup to portray a stereotypical racist buffoonery, a form of entertainment no longer socially acceptable in western society and is just considered  bad taste

Lou Diamond Phillips is very close to the Native American community. In 1990, he was adopted by the Sioux tribe, although he is Cherokee by blood.[21] "Star Keeper" is his Sioux name. That year, he also organized a concert, The Winds of Life, to benefit Native American causes.

IRON EYES CODY famous Indian portayer was born as Espera Oscar de Corti in Kaplan, Louisiana, a second son of Antonio de Corti and his wife, Francesca Salpietra, immigrants from Sicily. Corti claimed Indian ancestry up until his death. He told a fictious tale of an invented childhood in Oklahoma were he had a pet Buffalo. Corti always appeared in public dressed in full Indian regalia which included a custom made jet black wig with shoulder length braids in the manner of a plains Indian.
