Unlike in the US, kids are expected to take care of the financial needs of parents and siblings.
Only leaving the Philippines and the culture they love to improve their lot in life
and help provide for the family members left here which is really a dead end short term solution.
A mother in need is one thing but the survival needs of an entire clan relying on the remits
of one over seas worker is BS.
They find themselves transplanted into cultures that have strict Draconian laws like the Muslim countries and they become prey for every scammer and drug dealer that knows there is a black market in these countries for Illicit drugs.
the real trouble is.. they might meet with success over seas and really they should
be socking away the fiances to IMPROVE their own futures through investing.
but what happens is, they send almost every dollar back here to an extended family
that is stuck in survival mode.
when they eventually return here after working somewhere they return to nothing.
the situation does not change.
It has been argued that the Philippines is not suited to be a Western Democracy
because of lack of education and the whims of a corrupt elite dynasty system
that uses this situation for exploitation of a religious minded people that still live in the previous century by conditioning them with day long TV shows with cult of celebrity opinions being dictated to them.
The Corrupt strawman bureaucracy could be replaced with a functional Authoritarian central government
with the peoples best interest in mind until such time that the country is up to a level they are able
to maintain some level of culpability with more affluent countries in the region only then to
decide on what form of Government to replace the Authority and return to self rule.
